I am a second year student at the University of Regina currently studying secondary Education. I am majoring in English and minoring in Health.
I grew up in a very small town called Chaplin which is west of Moose Jaw just off of the number 1 highway. I took all of my Kindergarten to Grade 12 at our little school in town and it is where I learned my love for teaching and helping others.
I was on our Student Representative Counsel from Grade 4 to Grade 11 where I served as a room representative, a junior sports representative, a vice president, and president for 3 years. This has taught me many leadership skills that I still use to this day.
I worked at our community pool for 3 summers as a lifeguard and swim instructor. As one of the only employees who came from Chaplin and who knew the facility it was usually my job to familiarize and train the new staff with the pool which taught me so much about being a good leader. As a swim instructor it opened my eyes to the world of teaching. I never knew how much fun I would have sharing my knowledge and passion of swimming with children, something I wish to continue to do in the future with my passion for learning.
While I did not always know I wanted to be a teacher I did always know that I had a passion for learning. This was not just in school but also through sports, 4H, lifeguarding, and helping on our family farm. There is so much in our world to explore and learn about and I hope to share my knowledge with future generations!
