Stories From the Field Blog #6

The learning and teaching in my field placement school is done in a very typical way and is very recognizable from what you would see in a classroom. Since it is a grade 7/8 split it is very curriculum based. The teachers in the school do try to find different ways to go about the curriculum though. My field placement teacher uses little activities like bellwork when the kids come in and jeopardy for math to try to switch it up from the basic pencil and paper work. All of the learning relates back to I can statements which are a large part of elementary curriculum. The students that I talked to said that they enjoyed having the I can statements posted in the classroom because it helps them know what goals they have to set for themselves.
